SUPPORT CONSERVATION
A Sanctuary with Purpose.
Conservation is our purpose. Tourism is the main way we fund it. At Wina, we protect a rare intersection of wetland, forest, and floodplain ecosystems along the West Lunga River in northwestern Zambia. Our work is practical and hands-on: removing snares, preventing fires, supporting wildlife through the dry season, restoring degraded land, and building the community partnerships that make conservation last beyond any single project or donor. We are not a large institution. We are a family-rooted operation, working quietly and persistently to preserve a place worth protecting.

WHAT WE PROTECT
A rare ecosystem at the heart of Africa.
Wina sits in the watershed between two of Africa's greatest river systems — the Zambezi flowing south, the Congo flowing north. The land here is a mosaic of floodplain, rainforest, and seasonally inundated grassland. It is home to species rarely seen elsewhere in Zambia, including sitatunga, pangolins, and over 170 recorded bird species.
This kind of landscape is increasingly rare. We are committed to keeping it intact. Protecting this landscape means protecting the full web of biodiversity it supports.

CONSERVATION IN PRACTICE
Simple, practical conservation.
Evolving every day.
We are not conservationists by training — we are people who love this land and are committed to protecting it the best way we know how. Our work is hands-on and unglamorous in the best sense: regular patrols across the 350-hectare property, snare removal, fire management to protect regenerating vegetation, dry-season water points and supplementary support to keep wildlife alive through the harshest months, and active reforestation across 100 hectares of degraded land. We are learning and growing every day. These are the actions that make the difference between a landscape that survives and one that doesn't.

COMMUNITY PARTNERSHIP
Conservation with
the people who live here.
Conservation fails when it ignores the people who share a landscape. From the beginning, Wina has worked alongside neighbouring communities — not around them.
Together, we have built a community school — and we are looking to continue this investment through a library and conservation education programme. We welcome partners and donors who share that vision.

FLAGSHIP SPECIES & LAND
Species worth protecting.
Wina may not have the Big Five, but it has species that are
genuinely hard to see elsewhere in Zambia. Sitatunga, the shy and semi-aquatic antelope of the floodplain. Pangolins — one of Africa's most trafficked and least-seen animals. Over 170 bird species, including endemics and rare visitors that draw dedicated birders from across the world.
These are not headline animals. They are indicator species — their presence tells us the ecosystem is functioning. Protecting them means protecting everything else.
